Cumberland Woodturners

John Lucas

I am a photographer for Tennessee Tech. University. I have been dabbling in woodworking for 35 years. I started turning small items almost as soon as I started making things in wood. An electric drill was my first lathe. I started turning seriously about 1987 and joined the AAW in 1990. I have been turning actively ever since.

I turn all styles and try all techniques because I don’t want to be held back by my skills when I think of a new project. I am known for my hand mirrors which take on all forms and styles. My current projects are more conceptual, I want to try to tell a story with my work, or at least make the viewer think and respond.
